Swiss steak


Ingredients:

2 to 2 ½ lbs round, Swiss or family steak
¼ cup flour
2 tbsp oil or shortening
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
2/3 cup undrained mushrooms stems and pieces
1 large onion, sliced
1 ¼ cups condensed cream of tomato soup
1 ½ cups frozen peas, if desired

Procedure:
Preheat oven at 350°F. Cut steak into pieces. Coat with flour, in large frying pan brown on both sides in hot. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add mushrooms and liquid, onion and soup. Cover tightly. Simmer on top of range or bake at 350°F for 1 ½ to 2 hours, adding peas during last 20 minutes of cooking.
